WE ARE HEX : GLOOM BLOOM
You can talk with your hands, but it's all in the hips.
Indianapolis-based foursome WE ARE HEX will release their debut full-length titled Gloom Bloom on April 7, 2009.
On Gloom Bloom, WE ARE HEX plays with noise, dance, doom and psychedelia - mashing together difficult-to-pinpoint influences into a surprisingly cohesive album. Booming synth, precise, spacey guitar, a music box piano, and harsh nasty bass are lead by a barrage of drums and topped off with multi-instrumental experimentations using horns, violins, xylophones and anything else the band might be able to find in an abandoned home. Without losing the pop sensibilities of the 50s and 60s or the urgency of classic punk, the music of WE ARE HEX seems to recall Joy Division, the Cure, Gang of Four, PJ Harvey and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
The band was formed in early 2007 by Brandon Beaver and Jilly Weiss. They immediately closeted themselves in a storage unit in their home town of Indianapolis. The result was a year of writing and recording and a full-length record that never saw the light of day... because it just wasn't exactly right.
Early in 2008 Trevor Wathen and Matt Hagan rounded out the sound and the current lineup was formed. The four moved into a house in the foulest neighborhood in the city and turned that house into a studio. Thus was born the HEX HAUS - a moniker used for the band's homestead, studio, and record label. Over the course of the last year the band has written and recorded dozens of songs - thirteen of the best have made it onto their debut Gloom Bloom. With relentless touring and an EP release scheduled for 2009, you are bound to hear much more from WE ARE HEX. Stay Tuned.
